Bao Tao
Bao Tao is a turn-based tactical puzzle game. You play as a ronin Bao who travels through the lands of Catugawa on his quest to reach the capital and warn everyone about the impending demon invasion.
He is pursued by the demon hounds, and each time they catch up with Bao, ronin loses some of his health fighting.
How to Play
Your path to the capital is made up of many locations marked by white circles. You travel by clicking on the next destination. How far Bao can travel per turn is limited by his food supply. For any journey longer than 1 location, Bao loses food. When his food supply runs out, ronin loses 1 HP at the end of his turn.
Location Types
There are several location types in the game:
- Tavern. Allows to replenish food supply and heal HP
- Village. You can earn karma points by helping locals to organize a defense against demons. By this, you can also weaken demons that pursue Bao.
- Temple allows you to heal a number of HP or create a save point where you can respawn if killed later.
Blank locations have no effect.
Demon Hounds
Damon Hounds follow Bao each turn, except when they are on cooldown. Each time Demon Hounds emerge, their stats are randomized, depending on how much loot they have collected before being killed.
Demon Hounds gain loot when they pass villages that are not protected.
They lose loot after respawning
Cheat codes
You can open/close the cheat console by pressing Shift+Cmd/Ctrl+C.
Example of cheat command: «hp +10»
The following commands are supported:
- hp +number/-number adds or removes hp from Bao
- food +N/-N
- kill hounds

A few icons, color palette and cheat console layout were reused from another project. Everything else, coding, art and music, were made in one weak of the jam.

Fun game! It definitely takes some repeat plays to appreciate the value of the various items, which is just as it should be, and I think I could still learn more with more plays. I played on Medium and had to restart once (instant death respawn situation), but after that was able to use my respawn point to try out different strategies -- and get different demon configurations -- and I was able to make it to the end. The UI works smoothly and intuitively, I enjoyed the music, and I really liked the changing of the seasons in the art. Nice job!

I have never felt such relief seeing the end of the map, being at 1 hp and having a 3 move hound spawn behind me. Good stuff mate.
